Background of the study :
Infrastructure development is a cornerstone of regional economic integration, serving as a conduit for trade, investment, and social connectivity. In Kaduna State, infrastructural investments in transportation, energy, and communication systems have been pivotal in promoting economic activities and facilitating regional integration (Ibrahim, 2023). Enhanced infrastructure reduces transaction costs, improves access to markets, and fosters inter-regional cooperation, all of which are essential for balanced economic development. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, bureaucratic delays, and maintenance issues persist, hindering the full potential of infrastructural projects (Suleiman, 2024). Recent literature emphasizes that while infrastructure development can drive regional growth, disparities in project execution and policy implementation may lead to uneven benefits (Nwankwo, 2025). This study critically examines the role of infrastructure in promoting regional economic integration in Kaduna State, integrating both qualitative and quantitative analyses to evaluate the effectiveness of current projects, identify challenges, and propose actionable policy recommendations (Ibrahim, 2023; Suleiman, 2024).
Statement of the problem
Despite significant investments in infrastructure, Kaduna State continues to experience challenges in achieving full regional economic integration. Poor maintenance, delayed project completions, and inefficiencies in resource allocation have limited the intended benefits of infrastructural development (Nwankwo, 2025). These challenges not only impede regional connectivity but also deter investment and hinder socioeconomic progress. The disconnect between infrastructure investments and their effective implementation raises questions about governance and policy effectiveness. This study aims to identify the factors that contribute to these challenges and assess the overall impact of infrastructural shortcomings on regional economic integration in Kaduna State (Ibrahim, 2023).
